Summer Fun

Summer time is a time for Tourism, camp parents, baseball games, relaxation, as well as fishing. The Snowmobile/Cross Country trails in the winter become available for hiking, horseback riding,bird watching, & bicycle riding in the summer. Route 171, the road outside the motel, is Bicycle Route L connected to other bicycle route letters down to Scranton and the Lehigh Valley . But be warned, it is all uphill to get back to the Motel. Some of the trails are set aside for 4 wheeling. There are the two local county Fairs in August – the Wayne County Fair (the 1^st week of August) and the Harford Fair (during the 3^rd week), and another on Labor Day Weekend, the Wyoming County Fair in Messhoppen.

At least a dozen golf courses (9 & 18 hole) within a half hour drive and a few driving ranges too are nearby. Reservations are not always needed and space is usually available. Antiques, Collectables and Unique stores/shoppes are numerous and varied in the area to satisfy anyone's taste.

There are several State and local parks to watch wildlife as well as Pa. State Game Lands: Salt Springs State Park , Merli-Sarnoski Park , Lackawanna State Park . Or you can stay at the Motel and just walk down the hiking trail to the Lackawanna River . It’s left in all it’s natural beauty. If you do birdwatching, take the local Birder's Guide to the county from our room and take it with you out to the woods. Or you can sit on the sidewalk & watch the hummingbirds come over to our planter ouitside the Office. With all these wooded areas you can just go out and get away from it all and get your nervous system back, relax, & do nothing.

The Yankees have the triple AAA baseball affiliate playing in the Scranton area just minutes away. See the future bombers at discount prices nearby. You can even ride a trolley to the game.

Many lakes and streams to enjoy fishing are in the area. The Fish Commission allows access for Boating & Fishing on most lakes here. Trout, Bass, Pickerel are common. And being only 20 miles from the upper Delaware & Susquehanna , some rather large fish come out of there as well. In Honesdale and in Scranton one can get on a train to go for a ride in the country or visit the museums that go with the trains at the station. Check the Steamtown & Wayne County C of C for special trips, mystery train murder weekends, great train robberies, etc.. .
